Medellin

Medellin, the second-biggest city in Colombia, and the recent winner of the World's Most Innovative City Award. Sprawling over a huge valley in the northern Andes, Medellin has built a great metro system and installed cable cars as well as escalators to allow the (poorer) people on the slopes of the valley to participate in this energetic city.
The people here are so friendly and so proud of the fact that tourists want to visit their city, that they even take photos of the tourists!!!

We had one of the best New Years (Año Nuevo) of our lives with some amazing new friends and friendly Colombians. An esky full of beer, passionfruit mojitos, grape eating/wish making on the count down, and aguardiente in the park ... all with the lovely Tim, Loren, Dean, Emma, Tom, Meggy and much more - thanks so much guys!

Oh yeah ... Pablo Escobar ...

Botero's sculptures ... fat boy on a fat horse - that is art that I can appreciate!

One of Botero's sculptures destroyed by a bomb in crowded market-place, killing 21 people. Botero donated another sculpture ... they now represent the old-Colombia and the new-Colombia.
