Cartagena, Colombia

What a city!  Cartagena has it all.

Old and new, relaxed and hectic, vibrant and grimey, fine dining and cheap quality street food...

The old town of Cartagena is a phenomenal example of the power of the Spanish in the 1500s.  The beautiful buildings and cathedrals are entirely enclosed by a 20m thick stone wall.  The town is protected by the humungous fort of San Felipe Castle which watches over the town and harbour from a hill to the south of town, a perfect vantage point to spot approaching fleets of pirates and the jealous British.

We arrived in Cartagena a few days before Christmas - enough time to settle in before the food and festivities with our amazing travel companions.

Old town...

This guy was getting around the streets of old town pretending to be a horse and rider....a very talented man with a crazy sense of humour.  Great entertainment for the captivated children....and us!

Taking a mud bath in Volcan de Lodo El Totumo....

It's not every day that you get massaged by a Colombian man and then stripped naked and washed by a Colombian woman!

Thanks for all the good times Tim and Loren

Christmas ... Cartagena-style!
